Executive Summary

The Electronics and Communications Department was established in the year 2003 and now runs one undergraduate, one postgraduate program (M. Tech in MCNT), Ph. D. program also one 3 years diploma program affiliated by WBSCTE. The programs offered by the department are the most sought after branch in Engineering by top WBJEE rank holders and other aspirants from across the country. All the programs are accredited by NAAC the undergraduate program is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) which is compulsorily outcome based, planned to meet the Industry needs and also Research organization. The program contents are upgraded on annual basis with involvement from industry experts, academia and reputed research institutions.

Experienced faculty members all of whom are engineering postgraduates and most of them with PhDs as well, support three core specializations (VLSI & Microelectronics, Communication, Image processing & Neural Network, Embedded system) in the Department. Academics at UG and PG level are sustained with a staff to student ratio of 1:15. The curriculum includes a strong self-study component and mini projects at all levels so as to develop the students' independent analytical abilities. Opportunity for innovation and incubation is provided at this stage to successful projects by the institute for industrial standards. The department offers financial support to its young faculty for cutting edge research and also encourages them to undertake sponsored research from industry and government agencies. Presently several projects sponsored by UGC, AICTE are under way in the department. Also, department provides healthy environment to students and faculties to carry out inter department collaborative research in area like robotics, human computer interface, SMART sensor etc. Software Simulation environment (MATLAB, Ansoft HFSS, ORIGIN Tanner EDA Tools, FPGA Intellisuite, COMSOL, VISSIM etc.) and state of the art are available.

Having undergone such a robust academic program under the supervision of quality faculty members, all passing out students of the department are capable of envisage, plan and develop big projects of commercial and research interests in their respective field of expertise.

Objective:

To provide an enhanced base of knowledge and current and reflective practice necessary to initiate a career in electronics and communications at the professional engineer level and also to introduce specialist knowledge in the area of electronics and communications which build upon studies at the undergraduate level.

CORE STRENGTH:

Electronics and communication engineering course give enormous job opportunities in electronics and software companies. All electronic devices need software interface to run and come with one other or other device controlling programs architected and developed by electronics and communication engineering. It also gives great opportunities for research and development, as everyday consumer need new devices to support them in daily life. First year of electronics and engineering course dedicated to teach students about basic engineering techniques such as engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering drawing to name few. From second year of studies student start to learn about core Electronics and communication engineering subjects like digital electronics and logic design, fundamentals of communication engineering, electronic circuits, signals and systems, power electronics, applied electromagnetic theory, integrated circuits, VLSI, control systems and computer architecture are just few to mention. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Intel, Samsung Electronics, Sony, Toshiba, Philips Semiconductors, Texas Instruments, LG Electronics, Nokia, AMD, CISCO, Nvdia, HP and IBM are just few to mention.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) are established such that the program is preparing graduates to achieve career and professional accomplishments. These objectives are

  1. Graduates of ECE program will be able to understand the concept of core electronics subjects to embed a strong foundation in the engineering fundamentals to solve, analyze and design real time engineering products.
  2. Graduates of ECE program expose themselves to emerging edge technologies, adequate training and opportunities to work as team on multidisciplinary projects with effective communication skills and leadership qualities.
  3. Graduates of ECE program must have interdisciplinary learning capabilities that help themselves to opt better career by acquiring higher education.
  4. Graduates of ECE program will be able to learn and innovate in ever changing global economic and technological environment maintaining professional discipline and high ethical standard.

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
