Microprocessor & Microcontroller laboratory

This lab provides an in-depth understanding of the operation of microprocessors and microcontrollers, machine language programming & interfacing techniques. This course is designed to impart professional training to the students of the Department of Electronics & Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Engineering & Diploma in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering to interface and build microprocessors and Microcontroller based applications involving interfacing of 8255 with 8086 and serial communication. The objective of this course is to teach students design and interfacing of microcontroller-based embedded systems.

List of Experiments:

  1. Familiarization with 8085 and 8051 trainer kit components.
  2. Program development using basic instruction set (data transfer, Load/ Sore, Arithmetic, Logical) using 8085 trainer kit such as
    • Addition and subtraction
    • Copying and shifting a block of memory
    • Packing and unpacking of BCD numbers
    • Addition of BCD numbers
    • Binary to ASCII conversions
    • String matching
    • Multiplication of two numbers
    • Sorting of array of numbers
  3. Program using subroutine calls and IN/OUT instructions using 8255 PPI on the trainer kit, write subroutine for delay, reading switch state & glowing LEDs accordingly, finding out the frequency of a pulse train etc.
  4. Study of 8051 Micro controller kit and writing programs as mentioned in section 2.
  5. Innovative experiment

Industrial Automation laboratory

This lab imparts skill and knowledge on Industrial automation with an exclusive training on hardware and software components to automate industrial and commercial applications. Students are trained on automation products like PLC, DCS to control and monitor the different control loops such as Liquid flow control loop, Air flow control loop, Pressure control loop, Temperature control loop and Level control loop. Labs are equipped with Modular Controllers with Technology functions and advanced configurations. Programs are developed to enhance the skill set of the students on Hardware & Programming basics.

  1. Study of a Temperature Control Loop having Furnace, suitable final control element, Temperature transmitter, conventional PID controller/Control System, and data logger/recorder
  2. Study of a Pressure Control Loop having Pressure source, Pressure Transmitter, Motorized/Pneumatic control valve, and conventional PID controller/Control System
  3. Study of a Flow Control Loop having suitable Flow meter, Motorized/ Pneumatic control valve, and conventional PID controller/Control System
  4. Study of a Level Control Loop having Level Transmitter, Motorized/ Pneumatic control valve, and conventional PID controller/Control System

Internet of Things laboratory

The Internet of Things i.e., IoT laboratory is designed using the Arduino UNO and ESP8266, a low power, highly-integrated Wi-Fi solution for IoT applications, with highly-integrated on-chip features, offers reliability, compactness and robustness. ESP8266 is integrated with a 32-bit Tensilica L106 32-bit RISC processor & Raspberry PI. The following laboratory impart the knowledge related to establishing a soft access point for IoT, controlling display units via IoT, grabbing data from a website with permission, displaying the world clock for a specific location, monitoring and logging the temperature and humidity data at a given location, tracking the distance of an object from an ultrasonic sensor, spotting a plane somewhere and collecting weather map data for a specific location.

  1. Definition, Characteristics, and Features of IoT.
  2. Familiarization with Arduino IDE and writing a program using Arduino IDE for LED blinking.
  3. Study of LM35 temperature sensors and write programs to monitor them with Arduino with Thing Speak.
  4. Study of DHT-11 sensors and write programs to monitor them with Arduino with Thing Speak
  5. Study of ultrasonic sensors and write programs to monitor them with Arduino with Thing Speak
  6. Familiarization with Node MCU and writing a program using it for LED blinking.
  7. Study of LM35 temperature sensors and write programs to monitor them using Node MCU
  8. Study of DHT-11 sensors and write programs to monitor them using Node MCU
  9. Study of ultrasonic sensors and write programs to monitor them using Node MCU
  10. Setup Raspbian on the Raspberry Pi and write a program to blink an LED using Python.
  11. Interfacing digital sensors and relay boards with Raspberry Pi & ESP 8266
  12. Familiarization with Python and writing programs in PyCharm IDE using Anaconda Framework.
  13. Define and Explain Eclipse IoT Project.
  14. Introduction to Blink Application and implementation of small projects
  15. Introduction to Cisco Packet Tracer
  16. Case Study: Intelligent Traffic systems (case study), Smart Parking (case study), Smart water management (case study), Any other innovative experiment
